Threats to Orono Parks

They’re Seen, Subtle and Unforeseen

Our beloved park system dates back 100 years or more. Over time, it was built by city leaders through smart acquisitions -- and the benevolent generosity of private families eager to preserve and create for the Orono community and its neighboring residents beautiful public spaces to benefit the greater public good for the Orono community and its neighboring residents .

Today, our parks are challenged by forces that are seen, subtle and unforeseen, including:

  • DEVELOPMENT

Special interests prone to development of our shared natural spaces

  • BUILDOUTS

More onsite park buildouts where none are needed

  • ENVIRONMENT

Naturally occurring environmental threats to land, water, quality of park life

  • CLIMATE

    Threats from changing climate

  • DISREGARD

Actions by careless citizens not interested in good stewardship and park preservation

  • GOVERNMENT

Overreaching agencies of state and local governments

Let’s not forget the gift of our public parks.

Or our responsibilities to Preserve Orono Parks. Permanently.
